Five years ago sitting at my desk at Bloomberg in New York City, I could have never imagined that only five years later, I would be living in Portland, Oregon coming back to New York to host a gala for 200 people ... on a yacht ... tons of volunteers ... two employees ... and Bloomberg would be a sponsor!
Welp. It happened. And it was surreal. Not only did Bloomberg sponsor at $5k, but our friends at Deloitte and GAP sponsored at $10k each!
My entire worlds collided on October 13 and it was amazing. The chair of the event, Michelle Borgese (with her bright pink lips and heels) kicked off the event and it only got better from there!
Friends from high school who were by my side through diagnosis and treatment. Best girlfriends from college who all live in Maryland who sent me "Pretty Packages" before that was even an idea; co-workers from Bloomberg and Publicis; family friends who I've known since I was a little girl, and even friends who came in from Portland, Chicago, Philadelphia and DC. And of course all of the Quackenbush/Atieh family, all of the Borgese family and friends and all of mine. Oh what a night!
The night was a mishmosh (is that a word?) of so many smiling faces who were there to support Fighting Pretty. Not just me, but the women out there who are battling cancer and need to be reminded they are strong and beautiful.
We raised over $40,000 that night (netted at about $25k) and it was truly a success.
My heart is still full, and I'm still pinching myself for not only pulling off a party that raised some great money for our mission, but a party that was actually fun and night we will never forget.
So who wants to join the committee to start planning for next year? Because we are ready!
