Let's make one thing clear: Fighting Pretty does not just help women battling breast cancer.
But our founder, Kara Frazier, did a self-breast exam in the shower approximately 16 years ago at the age of 26 and was diagnosed shortly thereafter with stage 3 breast cancer. Why did she do a self breast exam at 26? Her grandmother died of a decades-long battle with breast cancer that same year.
Today is the first of the month. Many will say "Feel it on the First" in a fun, kitschy way. For us, it's serious. Kara felt it. It was hard. It was scary. And it was cancer.
According to our friends at The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, in 2024 alone, an estimated 310,720 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S., making it the most common cancer in American women. Every two minutes a woman in the U.S. is diagnosed with the disease.
Don't just feel your breasts. Push on them. Know them. If there is a lump or something feels "off," please don't wait. If Kara did, she may not be here 16 years later. Now, she's flat, fabulous and truly hashtag#FightingPretty.
